Air Pump Eliminator Kit for Mazda RX-7 FD Installation Guide

The Pettit Racing Air Pump Eliminator Kit for the 1992-2002 Mazda RX-7 FD provides all the necessary parts to eliminate the factory air pump as well as its parasitic drag on performance. Since these parts are modular and do not necessitate any permanent modifications, the air pump can be easily re-installed if desired.

Comes with: Billet Alternator Pulley, Billet Water Pump Pulley, four 6 mm x 10 mm bolts, two 3/4” rubber caps, and one of the two following belts: 30.3" drive belt for the stock crank pulley or 29.0" drive belt for the power pulley - crank pulley.

Here's how to install it:

1. It is necessary to remove both the power steering / AC compressor belt and the old alternator belt. Start by using a 15/16 socket and impact gun to loosen the alternator pulley nut.

2. Next, use a 10 mm wrench to remove the 4 bolts holding the water pump pulley in place, then use 12 mm and 14 mm wrenches to loosen the alternator tensioning bolts. Both belts and pulleys should now easily come off.

3. Then, remove the air pump unit and install the included 3/4" rubber caps onto the tubes where the hoses were connected. The new alternator pulley should slip on and off the alternator smoothly without force, otherwise it may be necessary to clean or sand the alternator shaft before attempting to mount it again.

4. Lastly, reinstall the water pump pulley by routing the belt back into the pulley, and then slip the pulley back on with the belt engaged. Then simply tighten the nut & pulley bolts, adjust the belt tension, tighten the alternator bolts, and now you're done.

A simple method for setting the correct drive belt tension is as follows: using your thumb and index finger, pinch the belt in the middle of the long run (the right side looking from front) and then proceed to twist the belt longitudinally; if it easily twists past 90 degrees, tighten it accordingly, and if it won’t twist 90 degrees, loosen it. Make sure to also tighten the pivot / mount bolt as well.

Upgrade your Mazda RX-7 FD's performance and longevity
